As part of the ongoing 4th Europe and Central Asia Regional Congress and Exhibition of the International Road Federation (IRF Global) in Tbilisi, a panel discussion was held today on the topic: “Quality Control, Construction Supervision, and Material Efficiency.”
Irakli Giorgobiani, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Construction Companies Association (ICCA), presented the perspective of private contractors at the meeting. He noted that the primary focus in the tender system should not solely be on the lowest price, and priority should instead be given to the sustainability and reliability of the infrastructure. He also emphasized that effective construction supervision must be based on partnership and cooperation between the parties.
One of the panel participants was Ketevan Shervashidze, a representative of PwC Georgia, an association member company. She spoke about quality control mechanisms in projects and the current challenges. Ketevan shared her vision with the attendees on how to prevent technical flaws from escalating into contractual disputes, including through the proper application of FIDIC standards.
Jemal Zabakhidze, Deputy Chairman of the Roads Department, and Irakli Khergiani, President of the Georgian Association of Consulting Engineers, also participated in the discussion.
