Joint event of German Economic Association (DWV) and Infrastructure Construction Companies’ Association (ICCA)

The German Economic Association (DWV), along with the Infrastructure Construction Companies’ Association (ICCA), conducted a panel-discussing event to discuss the possibilities of involving the private companies

in the billion construction projects that announced by the Government of Georgia. The event was opened by DWV’s Managing Director, Dr. Sasha Ternis and the forum were led by Ms. Ana Sabakhtarashvili, director of the Infrastructure Construction Sompanies’ Association (ICCA).
Irakli Matkava, First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, has named the first investment tranche of USD 2.5 billion. Funding will be mainly from the international institutions, with the gradual inflows of funds. DWV’s managing board member and head of “HeidelbergCement” Mr. Michael Hempel emphasized the fact that the planned infrastructure projects should pay great attention to quality.
Independent studies have shown that most of the cement used in Georgia is insecure, which, in turn, suspects safety and, as a result of additional work, is constantly inexpedient. The International Audit Company “KPMG” stated “Crane Index” as an indicator of local construction business development assessment. Mr. George Darchiashvili, Deputy Head of Corporate Clients Service Division of “TBC Bank” addressed the forum to encourage the state structures and agencies to support construction companies more. He also talked about the difficulties arising during the participation in tenders, mainly due to the length of the processes. Levan Dvali, corporate director of “Sakenergoremont”, board member of “Infrastructure Construction Companies’ Association”, spoke about the wide range of mutual cooperation between Georgian and German companies and emphasized the importance of employment in Georgia for construction sector.
More than 70 guests of the DWV Forum were actively involved in the discussion, and the questions were asked, and at the end of the event, the audience had an opportunity to talk in person with the First Deputy Minister and other participants of the event
