ICCA hosted an event Hosted an Event Dedicated to Vocational Education

On March 17 Infrastructure Construction Companies’ Association, with the support of the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) hosted an event.  The format of the event consisted of two parts: private-public dialogue on the issue of “professional education: challenges and perspectives” and a forum to encourage employment in the construction sector. German Ambassador to Georgia, H.E. Hubert Knirsch, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Ms. Tamar Kitiashvili and the Executive Director of ICCA Ms. Ana Sabakhtarishvili delivered a welcome speech at the online event. Giorgi Gamkrelidze, Head of the Unit of Labor Market Analysis at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia addressed the current situation in the labor market. After the welcome speech, within the framework of the event the participants discussed the importance of vocational education and its role in the issue of economic development, demands of the construction market and responses and challenges of human resources in this regard.  Hubert Knirsch: „The exchange between all relevant stakeholders is crucial for advancing in the TVET sector. Therefore I am pleased to be part of today’s event. Which is also an excellent example of how cooperation between VET schools, associations, and the private sector can be a platform for supporting the employment of young and motivated people. The support of the activities in the area of the private sector and TVET in the five sectors – one of them being construction- is an important cornerstone of Georgian-German development cooperation“. Tamar Kitiashvili: „Only through active involvement of the sector and individual sector approach to vocational education can we actually eliminate the inconsistency between demand and supply that exists today on our market. Hopefully, similar events will lay a foundation to a tradition in the years to come. “ Ana Sabakhtarishvili: „Business sector is starting to see the significance of vocational education more and more clearly. Construction is an area where there is a particular lack of professionals and qualified staff. That is the reason why we decided with this event to help the businesses on the one hand – to find qualified employees and to help professionally qualified persons on the other hand – to find employers. I am certain that today’s public-private dialogue and employment forum will have its say in the process as well as in the country”.  At the event Infrastructure Construction Companies’ Association presented results of a research that reflects the needs of construction companies and of those educational institutions that are implementing construction programs.  The dialogue gave place to the employment forum where the participants with vocational education, as well as attendees and students of vocational programs were granted an opportunity to meet construction companies with employment prospects.
