
The Parliament of Georgia adopted the “Georgian Space Planning, Architectural and Construction Activity Code” with the third reading, which will
enter into force on June 3, 2019.
The purpose of the Code is to regulate spatial planning, urban planning, architectural and construction activities on the territory of Georgia. The Code regulates spatial planning and urban planning, municipal spatial planning, urban planning, regulation of land use and construction and other important issues. As well as the basic requirements for building buildings and construction materials, the terms and conditions for issuing building permits, individual supervision of construction supervision and construction offenses and the appropriate sanctions.
In addition, the most important novelty of the Code is the obligatory certification of architects and architects. These include: architect with the authority to certify architectural project, for the construction of a constructive project, an engineer-builder responsible for construction works, an architectural project and an expert project designer. Compulsory certification will take effect from October 1, 2020.
After the entry into force of the Code, the Law of Georgia on “Basis of Spatial Arrangement and Urban Construction” will be declared invalid by the June 2, 2005 (Georgian Alerts №30, 24.06.2005, Article 186). Please see this link in detail.
