ICCA and GIZ hosted an event “Vocational Education in Construction”

On October 8 and 9 ICCA and German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) hosted an event aimed at informing the business sector about vocational education programs in the field of construction and main aspects of dual education as well as an overview of the initiatives proposed and steps taken by the construction business in terms of participation in the process.

The meeting was opened by Ms. Ana Sabakhatrishvili, ICCA Executive Director. Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Ms. Tamar Kitiashvili addressed the audience with opening remarks and discussed with business representatives the importance of engaging in vocational education. Also, Ms. Tamar Smakharadze, Acting Head of the Ministry’s Department of Vocational Education Development, weighed in on the reforms in vocational education.

The importance of the private sector’s engagement and ways of cooperation were discussed by Ms. Marika Zakareishvili, GIZ expert.
ICCA presented its vision of how the organization, as a mediator and actor in the process, plans to manage stakeholders’ participation in vocational education programs in construction sector.

Within the framework of the working meetings attended by ICCA’s 30 member companies, the Association founded the Education and Employment Committee composed of ICCA’s member companies. Company GRC was elected as chairman of the Committee.
During the event the working groups developed short-term mock-up vocational education programs in construction sector and discussed the stages of their implementation.

The meeting was held within the framework of the project “Supporting Private Sector
and Vocational education in South Caucasus” implemented by GIZ.
